In Italian, giardiniera means "from the garden" and this relish with vegetables and peppers goes back hundreds of years to Italy where it started as a homemade tradition. This marinated vegetable mix showed up in deli's around Chicago in the early 1920's and Pagliacci's giardiniera is one of our favorites. It is comprised of hot peppers, celery, bell peppers, cauliflower, carrots and pitted green olives in soybean oil, vinegar and spices. Generally used as a condiment on sandwiches or antipasto plates, Pagliacci hot giardiniera goes great on Italian beef sandwiches or a myriad of cold cuts.
